  • Responsibilities

    The Chemist will provide various levels of data validation for methods including but not limited to radiochemistry, VOCs, SVOCs, metals, cyanide, PCBs, pesticides, herbicides, TCLP analyses, general chemistry parameters, dioxin/furans, PCB congeners, and biological and chemical agents. In addition, the chemist will prepare and review QAPPS and sampling plans, provide guidance and convey instructions for collection of samples.  Work will involve providing occasional assistance outside normal working hours, including weekends and evenings.

    Qualifications

    The candidate must have:

    • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or Engineering and 8 to 10 years of experience within a laboratory setting and the environmental field, including data validation, laboratory procurement for environmental emergency and CBRN response.
    • Demonstrated expert level experience is required in Data Validation in accordance with (1) the U.S. EPA Contract Laboratory Program National Functional Guidelines for Inorganic and Organic Data Review, (2) U.S. EPA Guidance for Labeling Externally Validated Laboratory Analytical Data for Superfund Use, and/or (3) other validation guidance documents as necessary. Methods requiring validation would include but are not limited to radiochemistry, VOCs, SVOCs, metals, cyanide, PCBs, pesticides, herbicides, TCLP analyses, general chemistry parameters, dioxin/furans, PCB congeners, and biological and chemical agents.
    • Demonstrated experience performing both Stage 2A and Stage 4 data validations is required.
    • Knowledge of different types of EDDs including Scribe-Formatted EDDs and laboratory-generated Staged Electronic Data Deliverables (SEDD).
    • Knowledge of various EPA and state methods including but not limited to SW-846, CLP, drinking water methods, NIOSH, ATSDR, OSHA, TO, and CARB.
    • Ability to prepare Sampling Plans and QAPPs and/or review for content and analytical requirements (method, holding times, sample volume, and sample media) and conduct and participate in In-field multimedia sampling.
    • Expert level experience with Analytical Procurement including the use of Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) laboratories and traditional lab procurement in accordance with U.S. FAR regulations.
    • Willing to carry, answer and provides assistance via cell phone or email during working and after-hour times.
    • Ability to provide guidance to field samplers and project managers regarding the correct methods to use, bottle/preservative requirements, sample volumes, chain of custody, and holding times.
