  • Responsibilities

    CSS, an experienced NASA/AF contractor with over 25 years of experience supporting mission critical systems for NASA, the USAF, and other government agencies, is actively seeking an Urban Planner to support our Kennedy Space Center, Florida operation. This position will be responsible for performing planning functions that administer and coordinate site plans, excavation permits and technical input to update and maintain the KSC Master Plan in support of the Institutional Support Contract (ISC). The specific duties include:


    • Manage work schedules to achieve customer and department goals, which includes project prioritization, tracking and final processing of jobs.
    • Ensure consistent implementation of processes and procedures, as well as modifying work instructions and procedures as necessary.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to Site Services staff regarding projects and field work.
    • Interface with the IT contractor for Master Planning and Excavation Permit software applications for maintenance and enhancements. Submit change requests and attend the IT Change Control Board as necessary.
    • Perform fieldwork as required, which includes walking long distances, being comfortable in non-urban environments, reading maps and aerial photographs, as well as be able to drive off road in a government furnished 4-wheel drive vehicle.
    • Perform, review and or prepare current planning products including site plans, special studies, constraint evaluations, as well as other planning related tasks.
    • Enforce current KSC site plan restrictions, criteria, standards and procedures.
    • Review engineering designs and attend design review meetings for compliance with NASA and ISC site plan guidance.
    • Provide technical input to update and maintain the existing KSC Master Plan in accordance with NASA guidelines.
    • Perform excavation permit administrator duties that are required to input and process the permits/waivers, as well as, perform excavation permit reviews, approvals, and field verification checks.
    • May conduct physical inventories of NASA-owned property. Verifies the facility capacity, usage, cost and installed equipment (RPIE). Updates the NASA property equipment records.
    • Perform all other position related duties as assigned or requested.




    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor degree in Business, Planning, Public Administration, Architecture, Engineering or a related field. Equivalent education/experience may be applicable. 
    • Shall be able to read design engineering drawings and specifications.
    • Requires good organization and computer skills.
    • Must possess good working knowledge of common office software such as Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
    • Thorough knowledge of the technical aspects of the position, and excellent written and verbal communication skills to include good interpersonal skills.
    • Must possess the ability to make sound, routine, independent decisions based on the working knowledge of general business principles, company and corporate procedures, goals and priorities.
    • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
    • Familiarity with GIS software is a plus.
    • Position may require the ability to pass and maintain a Security Clearance.
